Be Your Own Greatest Advocate

Think of your life like you’re a lawyer defending your client’s case. You’re standing in a courtroom arguing for this person’s (YOU) desires and needs in front of a judge and jury. Can you be your own greatest advocate?

In history there have been many lawyers who’ve won a case in favor of their client. One shining example of that is the OJ Simpson trial. Say what you will about innocence or guilt, but OJ’s lawyer Johnnie Cochran fought like hell for his innocence, and in the end won him the freedom that he wanted.

I look at my own life and sometimes see areas I don’t fight enough for myself. You maybe think of areas in your own life where you don’t fight hard enough to win a case for your own interests.

Let today be your permission to start standing up and defending your case to the judges and juries of your life. Defend it like you want to win it for your client, you! Because no one else is gonna do it for you, and other people have what they want because they already do it for themselves.

As a crazy as it sounds, perhaps it can be helpful to think of ourselves in the third person, thinking to ourselves we have to win this person’s happiness. I live this person’s life, I feel this person’s pain, and I owe it as the person who controls this human experience and has to deal with this human experience, to get all the best things this person I live as desires.

  1. Great post!

I’ve begun to try to act like the perfect parent to myself. What would I say to my child, and how would I look out for him or her?

Very similar line of thought in your post.

If you haven’t read it before, I highly recommend The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem by Nathaniel Branden.

    I think you’d like it.

Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good writing!
